Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study is to analyze doctoral theses in the nursing field related to peer bullying in Turkey from various parameters.

Method: The study population consisted of 55 doctoral theses in the field of nursing found during a search conducted between February and April 2023, using keywords related to peer bullying in the Higher Education Council National Thesis Center database, without specifying the date range. During the literature review, the keywords "bullying," "peer bullying," and "peer pressure" were searched in the "thesis title" field. The theses which failed to fulfill the research inclusion criteria, which were repetitive, lacked full text available, or were not written in Turkish were excluded, and the remaining 7 doctoral theses were included in the study.

Results: The first doctoral thesis on peer bullying in nursing was published in 2008. Six theses were conducted in quasi-experimental/experimental research design, and one thesis was descriptive, comparative, and correlational. Five theses used a theory and model based method. In 85.7% of the theses (n=6) secondary school students were the preferred study group, and in 14.3% (n=1) high school students were the preferred study group.

Conclusion: Based on the results of the majority of the theses, which are experimental, model-based or non-model-based various education programs about peer bullying have been found to be effective in preventing peer bullying in children. Considering the significant short- and long-term consequences of bullying for both victims and bullies, doctoral theses addressing peer bullying with different dimensions are needed in this regard.
