Aim: This study was conducted to determine the relationship between the intercultural competencies of nurses who care for patients from different cultures in pediatric clinics and their caregiver attitudes.
Method: The descriptive research was carried out between November-December 2022. The population of the study consisted of nurses who served in the pediatric clinics of hospitals in Konya, and the sample was volunteers to participate in the research on the specified dates and had internet access. The data were collected online in snowball method with the "Introductory Information Form", "Intercultural Competence Scale of Health Professionals" and "Attitude Scale towards Nurses' Caregiver Roles". In the evaluation of the data; Analysis such as percentage, mean, t test, ANOVA were used. Ethics committee approval was obtained before starting the research. GPower analysis was performed for the sample size in the study and the total sample size was calculated as 156. The study was completed with 167 nurses.
Findings: 90.4% of the nurses participating in the study were women, 10.8% were undergraduates, 62.9% were married, and the average age of the nurses was 32.17±7.03. 41.9% of the nurses have been working in the pediatric clinic for 3-6 years. 32.9% of the nurses stated that they knew a foreign language, 53.9% of them gave care to patients from different cultures, and 48.5% of them stated that they wanted to be in contact with patients from different cultures. SPKYS mean score was 53.77±10.21; The HBVRIT score was 68.71±9.69. In the intercultural competence scale; marital status was found to be effective in the attitude scale regarding caregiver roles (p<0.05). No correlation was found between the intercultural competence of pediatric nurses who care for patients from different cultures and their caregiver attitudes.
Conclusion: In the study, while there was no relationship between the intercultural competence of pediatric nurses who care for patients from different cultures and their caregiver attitudes, some variables were effective in intercultural competence and caregiver roles.
