Action research includes some action or set of activities performed by members of an institution, organization or community to solve a particular problem. The use of action research in nursing can increase professional knowledge and help solve complex problems in the healthcare system. In this article, it is aimed to give information about the action research process. For this review, PubMed and Google Scholar databases were searched and the relevant books were examined. In the search, the keywords "action research" and "nursing" were searched in English. The reviewed literature shows that the action research method can improve clinical care, teamwork, communication, and clinical management. Action research can contribute to clinical team performance monitoring and training needs. The action research process, as in other types of research, includes the stages of choosing a suitable topic, collecting data, analyzing data, evaluating the results, and reporting the study. In this study, the method of action research in nursing was tried to be clarified and the importance of the use of action research was emphasized. All researchers who want to solve the problems encountered in the health system are recommended to apply this methodology.
